Pachi Pulusu

Pachi Pulusu is a quick and refreshing dish to enjoy on hot days. The flavors from a tangy tamarind will leave your mouth craving for more. This dish pairs perfectly with not only plain rice but also with pappu.


Serving Size: 3-4 people


Duration: 15-20


Ingredients:

1/2 cup of tamarind juice

(Soak tamarind in water and squeeze/drain liquid out)

1 medium sized onion

4-5 green chilies

1 stem of curry leaves

1/2 tablespoon of oil (any kind will work)

1/4 teaspoon of mustard seeds

1/4 teaspoon of cumin seeds

1 dry red chilli to enhance flavor (optional)

1/4 teaspoon of tumeric powder


Directions:

  1. Chop the onions and add in a serving bowl.

  2. Add turmeric and pour in tamarind juice with a pinch of salt for taste.

  3. Pour in 2 cups of water in bowl and mix ingredients for 1-2 minutes and put aside.

  4. On a stove with medium heat add oil in a small pan.

  5. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and both green and dry red chilies (Make sure to break the dry red chilies in half).

  6. Fry ingredients until they begin to make a popping sound.

  7. After hearing popping sounds turn off the stove

  8. Add the fried ingredient into the serving bowl and mix thoroughly.

  9. Now enjoy with a side of rice!! - or with potato fry and dal!

*You can add more salt or water to adjust the sourness of the pulusu.
